P05 Average item widths

This screen is used to handle the master data needed by IMMS to calculate the width of individual items.

This screen is used to enter this master data in the following tabs:

The order column shown on both tabs has the following significance:
The order is a ranking number with 1 as the highest priority. The principle behind this is that the ranking numbers always form an unbroken row from 1 to the number of rows. When a new row is created, space is automatically created at the position in the order of priority assigned to the new row.

Example 1:
If there are 10 rows to start with and you create a new row with a priority of 7, the new row will be assigned a priority of 7 and the existing rows with priorities from 7 to 10 will then be assigned priorities from 8 to 11. Likewise, if a row is deleted, the following rows will move up a spot. If the ranking number of an existing row is edited, the rows between the old number and the new number will move a spot up/down.

Example 2:
If, for example, you have rows with priorities from 1 to 6 and you edit the row with a priority of 2, giving it a priority of 4, then the row with a priority of 3 will be assigned a priority number of 2 and the row with priority of 4 will be assigned a priority number of 3. Then the edited row is assigned a priority number of 4. Overall, it has the same effect as if you had deleted the row with a priority of 2 and created a new row with a priority of 4. In other words, it is not possible to leave “holes” in the prioritization sequence, just as it is not possible to create multiple rows with the same priority

You simply specify the priority number that the new/edited row should have and any existing rows are automatically bumped up/down in the prioritization sequence as needed. If you enter a priority number that is larger than the number of rows (or allow the field to be blank), the row will be entered last in the ranking. Thus, it is not necessary ahead of time to formulate a plan for the use of the numerical sequence. In principle, there is no limit to the number of rows that can be added - and therefore also no limit to the size of a ranking number.
